Born in Harare, Zimbabwe and raised in England, United Kingdom, Tinaye Makuyana (b. 2000) began creating her signature paper sculptures while obtaining her BFA from Loughborough University.

Inspired by architecture and the natural environment, Makuyana explores the interaction of light, shadow, and geometry through her process of paper folding. Her work engages viewers using intense colour and optical illusions, challenging viewers to question their surroundings and contemplate their perceptions of reality.

Makuyana’s sculptures are constructed using 100% long cotton fibre paper, which are scored with a stencil knife and moulded to the desired outcome.
